Breakfast Biscuits

Maths learning has involved food in our class his week. We have been looking at measurement and so devised an experiment to measure how absorbant breakfast biscuits really are. We tried several brands and timed how long it took for them to absorb 200 mls of milk. We wondered if hot milk made any difference. We also measured the size of the breakfast biscuit and its weight. We found that if one biscuit took 2 mins to absorb the milk, then two took exactly four minutes. Warm milk was slightly quicker in its absorption. Look out for our table of results next week.

We measured the biscuit boxes and worked out the weight of the contents without the packaging.

  1. What a terrific experiment! What about the size of the biscuits? Did you find out anything about biscuit size and absorption or whether biscuits absorbed liquid more quickly if broken into pieces vs. whole?

    Great work!

  2. I was interested in this, because I like my breakfast cereal biscuits to be crunchy for as long as possible. I now know to make sure the milk is cold, and how fast I have to eat.

Thank you and well done, I look forward to seeing the full table of results and the analysis of those results.

  3. A great experiment! I'm going to time my Weet-Bix with hot milk next time I have them for breakfast.

Did you get to eat your experiment when you had finished?
